It is okay to have just one teacher recommendation and no counselor recommendation? I had my counselor send my transcript and school report, but she opted out of writing a letter of req. Is that okay for USC?

USC? What can i consider it to be?
Hi All,
I am a junior from California, and with decisions to make coming up this summer as to where to apply to, I wanted to know if I can consider USC (University of Southern California) as a safety or a match? I have a solid GPA (3.85+ thru HS and around 4.5 weighted), 4 B's on my transcripts (two in 1st sem Freshman, two in 1st sem junior ): ), and a 36 ACT (woot). I would really love to go to USC, one of my top choices. Hope everyone enjoys their holidays.
thanks

What are my chances?
USC is my dream school but I'm not sure if I would get in. Though I am only a junior (and will graduate 2018) I want to prepare as much as possible in order to get in. I plan to apply to the Thornton School of Music.
Korean male living in SoCal
16 years old
School: Public (around 2000-2500 students)
GPA: 3.5 weighted, 3.3 unweighted
Rank: Top 40%
ACT: 31
SAT/ SAT II: n/a
APs:
AP Psych (took my sophomore year, got a 3)
AP US History
AP Lang
ECs:
Vice President of a film club
Photography Director of school's performing arts conservatory
Have played piano since 6 (didn't play when I was in 3rd to 4th grade though)
Lot of chamber music experience
Will be performing a concerto with orchestra summer 2017
Pianist at high school orchestra
Volunteer:
Volunteer at a local theatre as an usher (15 hours)
Work:
Teach kids piano, twice a week
Awards:
A bunch of state/local awards for piano competitions
Won local videography contest
USC is definitely a reach, maybe even impossible. My GPA and volunteer hours are probably the weakest. But I'm determined to do better (especially 2nd semester) so that I can get accepted.
I'm open to any criticism, and feel free to chance me at other schools as well!

Help! Missing supplement
My S just got a very nice email from admissions stating that although his coming app had been submitted, he still needed to send his supplements. Unfortunately this is 15 days after the scholarship deadline when he thought he had submitted it before Thanksgiving. He wrote an email and will call Monday, but he can only go with $. Does anyone know if he will be considered?
↧
Did I Meet the EA deadline?
I submitted my common application and all other materials ~10 days before the deadline, then I realized ~10 days after the deadline that I hadn't added my reccomenders, because it's optional, so the field was marked as complete. I added them, and they were sent.
I'm assuming this pushed me into the regular applicant pool. Anyone know for sure? I can't find anything about it on my application portal.

Forgot to enclose Common App form for offline recommenders
I forgot to enclose the common app form for offline recommenders when I sent the envelopes to my recommender. I have contacted common app regarding the issue, and they suggested that I contact the colleges. I have notified the colleges of th e issue, and am currently waiting for their response.
Is there anyone else who were/are in the same situation? What is the best thing to do?

How generous is financial aid for transfers?
How good is financial aid for transfers at USC? I'm worried that as a transfer applicant that I won't be able to afford USC because of lack of financial aid.
What's the usual package for low-income transfers? Any transfers who can share their experience?
Thanks!

Bad Financial Aid for Transfers?
I heard that financial aid for transfers is not as good as the package for incoming freshmen. Is this true? I'm worried that as a TTP applicant that I won't be able to afford USC because of lack of financial aid.
I can't afford a lot of loans (my current college is making me loan around $10k per year). What's the usual package for low-income transfers? Has any transfer experienced hardships with this?
Thanks!

How is the USC math department?
I read somewhere that it is known to be pretty bad. Is this true?

Transfer from UW Madison to USC
Hi, I currently attend the University of Wisconsin as a Freshman. I am an international student from Canada. I have only completed one semester of study but due to unforeseen family circumstances (Grandparents are extremely sick) I need to move to Los Angeles next year. I have well over 30 transferable credits since I took many AP exams ( 5 on AP micro, macro, human geography, world history, Chinese culture and 3 on AP English literature). I will also have sophmore standing at UW Madison. I assume this means I do not need to submit my standardized test scores (I have a 31 ACT got it the first time I took it and never retook) and they won't look too thoroughly at my high school grades (they aren't very good)? I'm guessing that I will have a 3.25 GPA for the first semester of my freshman year, but I took some very hard courses like Math 221 and comp sci (a semi weeder class) and some humanities courses. I think I did well on all my courses (three AB's) except for comp sci where I was out of my depth and finished with a BC. With this in mind how likely do you think I could transfer to USC for economics? I am only part of one student org that mostly seeks to adapt international students to US life, and I don't really know any instructors from the uni who can write recommendations but I have a good friend who graduated USC who can vouch for me as well as some high school teachers. I know my GPA is low compared to others but my courses were tough and I only have a semester in uni and didn't really acclimate very quickly. I also already attend a similar level school. Thanks, any input is appreciated!

USC interviews
I'm very confused with the USC interview process. Do all students applying need to be interviewed? Do the people interviewing you see your grades and automatically know that you won't be admitted? Explain pls! How do they interview so many applicants anyways???

Recieved a D senior year of High School
I still havent submitted my application to USC, but recieved a D in my Pre Calc class. What steps should I take when applying? Should I enter the grade, wait for a mid year report, not tell them? Also is there a place on my application to explain the low grade? I dont even know if I should bother submitting my application at this point. I have never recieved a grade this low.

Are there any students in this program who would like to share their experience about this major? I am really hook onto this major and would like my career to be real estate and business related.
Thank you and I appreciate all your inputs and information!

Freshman Premed GPA
Hi there,
I recently completed my first semester at USC as a human biology major. I ended the semester with a 3.86 GPA (a huge disappointment to me) and am wondering if this is a good starting point for medical schools. I am not sure what the norm is for the premed track at USC considering the classes/curriculum structure.
My two A- courses were WRIT 150 and BISC 120 (should that be taken into account for my science GPA).
Also, does it get easier, or do you just get better? I've heard a lot of people say their GPA improves over the course of 4 years despite taking harder classes. Is it perhaps that once the general courses are completed, the major becomes easier to manage/more interesting?

USC Trojan Transfer Plan - Richmond, The American International University - Good Grades are Tougher
As a new student at Richmond and hoping to transfer, I signed a contract to achieve a GPA of 3.3 but am struggling to get A's. I am now being told that English universities grade much harder than American universities. An A grade is "exceptional" and much tougher to achieve. I think this should be considered by USC. Maybe I should have gone to Paris or Rome. Ugghhh...Has anyone else had this experience?
