USC is my absolute dream school and there is not a single university I would rather attend. My stats are the following: -4.33/5.0 GPA (AP worth 5, honors worth 4.5, regular worth 4.0) -I applied as an Accounting major at MSOB and Economics as a second choice major -By graduation, I will have completed 8 AP courses (Human Geo, US History, English Lang, Calc AB, English Lit, US Gov, Environmental Science, and Macro/Micro Economics). -Our School does not release rank to colleges but I am 14/436 at a very respected public school in Pennsylvania. -My best scores on Sat/ACT are ... 660 Math, 690 reading (New Sat), 36 R, 34 E, 29 M, and 27 S on ACT. 32 Composite Superscore - 5 on Human Geo exam, 5 on Ap Lang exam, 4 on APUSH exam - I was Junior Class President, served as Treasurer of FBLA and was a state finalist in Public Speaking & Management Decision Making event. Served as treasurer of Model UN, Member of schools masterworks choir since sophomore year (have performed in nashville, disney, and carnegie hall). Co-founder of school's Junior State of America club (political debate club), member of National Honors Society, Spanish National Honors Society, Ultimate Frisbee club, play in recreational Basketball and Soccer leagues since middle school. -Letters of Rec are very good -Essays are good with potential to be great. I made it evident that USC is my #1 choice. Thoughts?

Changing Majors to Annenberg

I'm currently in Marshall, and after taking a BUAD 304 and ECON 351, I do not think Business is the right major for me, especially since I really struggled throughout the semester and into finals. I was planning on minoring in communications and after taking a communications class, I might want to switch out of Marshall and go to major in communications. I understand for many Marshall is hard to get into, but is it as difficult to do so for Annenberg? I'm currently a sophomore but next semester is my third semester since I was a spring admit so I don't feel I would be too behind in switching majors. I was interested in the Media, Law, and Politics major since I want to go to law school anyway.

Mid-Year Report Question

Will USC recalculate my GPA from what they receive in my mid-year report, or is the report more of a gauge for how well I am doing my senior year? I have a slightly below average GPA (3.65 UW/4.5 W) however I experienced an adversity my sophomore year that affected my grades (death in immediate family 2 weeks before school started). I expect to have a great mid-year report, as my grades have had a huge upward trend since the adversity, so the weight of it when considering my app is really important to me. Thanks!

USC Marshall vs Emory Goizueta for Investment Banking

I am currently a freshman at Emory University and I am wondering whether or not it is worth it to transfer to USC Marshall. Emory is a great school, but it doesn't appeal to me as much as USC would in terms of an all-around college experience. For investment banking, I know that Emory is a very good semi-target on Wall Street, while USC is a big target on the west coast. I live in NYC, so connections will not be a problem for me when it comes to internships. I am also fine with living in LA or SF if I am offered a job out of USC. But is it really worth it in the end? People say that you have to network harder at USC, but wouldn't it be even harder for an Emory student to compete with the thousands of applicants from ivies, umich, uva, duke, etc. with 4.0 gpas? Idk I would just like some insight on the situation.

I got a confirmation email about my application to USC, but in the "required documents" section, it says that I need to submit my combined SAT or ACT score and the Common Application. Does anyone else's say this?

I am a senior in high school and I really want to go to the University of Southern California. I have a 4.6 weighted GPA, 3.7 unweighted and a 1290 on my SAT. I am worried most about my test scores. I am applying as a journalism major and spend a lot of time participating in extracurricular activities and volunteering. I am treasurer for my school's Girl Up Club (a United Nations affiliate), historian for my school's helping the homeless club, and a senior class representative. I have been a part of my school news for all four years of high school and work as a lead anchor and floor director. I also help write the daily stories. I also became an intern at my local history center and volunteered two summers in a row there. I have a total of 949 community service hours for all 4 years of high school. I have had three non-fiction articles published in online literary magazines. The articles I have had published all center around my experiences serving my community and my thoughts on how to improve communities.

I wanted to apply to USC, but I got two F's this semester, should I still apply? Or wait?

I had a tough semester, and many personal issues contributed to my **** performance this semester. Factoring in the Fs, I'd have around a 2.9-3.0. I'll be retaking the courses in the Spring and I know I can get A's if I really apply myself. I know my GPA will be pretty low, but I think my ECs are pretty good. I interned for a year at a Lufthansa electroplating lab, and then got promoted to lab tech for a few months, but I had to leave due to company budget cuts. And I spent this past summer working in a research lab at USC. I worked with a few professors there that are willing to write me letters of rec. and vouch for me. I also did some freelance work for a group that's making an app that helps companies estimate/analyze their carbon emissions through simulations. Any advice would be great. P.S. I'm also applying to UCs and some CSUs.

My D wants to do Bioengineering/premed and she got into USC with Trustee scholarship which is full ride and also she got into Caltech with no aid. As Caltech will be hard to get high GPA and also more expensive( $200 k) D is thinking to go to USC. Any advise or suggestion on that ? Just wanted to make sure not doing any mistake leaving Caltech as it is very selective and hard to get into. Thanks!

USC Trustee Scholarship - which major?

My son is a junior in a public school in southern California. He is passionate for both science and dance (music too if he had the time). Academically he has about 4.3 GPA (strong science/math), 99 percentile in SAT and PSAT (qualifying for NMS according to 2017 stats), and taking/passing many AP's. In dance he's got many scholarships including full ride to ballet summer programs. He is also very involved in helping the community with music, running a nonprofit org, providing funding for music therapy research as well as performing at senior homes. USC offers the best opportunities for double major in Kaufman dance and science. Dance is super competitive and he can't get in if not choosing it as his 1st choice of major, but he is probably not the best among the dance major applicants. Can someone recommend which major he should apply in terms of opportunity for getting the Trustee scholarship? Thanks!

I've taken the ACT and scored a 32 composite, but have a 30 in math. I was thinking about taking the january math sat subject test to see if I could offset that low score. Do you think this would help? Also, would a 33 subscore in the science section help? I applying as a computer science/business administration major.

So I've taken the ACT once (got a 31) and have taken the old SAT(1950) along with 3 subject test scores(720math2 670USH 550physics). Since USC doesn't require SAT subject tests, I was thinking about just sending in my ACT especially since my subject test scores are bad. What do you guys think? And no, I don't think I'll consider score choice an option.

https://tfm.usc.edu/a-guide-to-uscs-college-admissions-process An Insider’s Look at USC College Admissions It gets tougher every year to become a USC undergraduate. Admissions officers demystify the process. by Diane Krieger Winter 2016 “This is a unique and very special place. For the right student, it can be life-changing.” So says Katharine Harrington PhD ’93, USC’s vice president of admissions and planning. As USC’s chief enrollment officer for the last decade, she has watched the university steadily climb to the top tier of American academia. Her eyes still light up as she rattles off the qualities that set USC apart for undergraduate education. [...] “We get an awful lot more applicants than most private universities,” Harrington says. In 2016, that count passed 54,000. Only 3,068 became Trojans. [....... continued at https://tfm.usc.edu/a-guide-to-uscs-college-admissions-process ......]

Any chance into getting into USC?

Just got rejected ED and am looking towards my second and third choice colleges. Next on my list is USC. Could I have some opinions of yours regarding my chances at getting into Viterbi? GPA: 3.7/4.2 cumulative (soph: 4.10, 4.11; junior: 4.23, 4.59) ACT: 35 Math II: 800; Bio: 750 Intended major: CS Other stuff: Won state level debate award, Published paper in an international, peer-reviewed CS journal. Hold a design patent. Work as a web developer for Stanford. Participated in a research internship at a small software business, culminating in the paper I wrote (single-authored). I've taken two classes in CS outside school at a local community college (A's). I also own and operate a farm that produces over half a ton of produce and thousands of eggs annually. President and founder of two clubs at school, and VP of our school's FBLA chapter. 50+ hours of service for disabled people. I'm also Asian, and there's some other people from my school applying with better stats than mine. For these reasons, I'm currently under the impression my chances of getting in might be skewed against me more than I might expect, which is part of why I'm posting this.

How Important is the Mid Year Report?

Hey guys! This year has been a pretty rough one... I have 5 AP classes, 1 honors class, and 2 study halls during which I go to my local college to take Calculus II. While on paper classes like APES don't seem hard, the teachers I have are deceivingly difficult. I found these subjects to be enjoyable so I took them anyway knowing the risk and, unfortunately, it seems as if I will be getting a B in AP English IV: Literature, a B in APES, and a C in AP Physics C: Mechanics. The mechanics class is extremely difficult and generally completely changes who is in the top 10 of the graduating class, our valedictorian, our salutatorian, etc. Many people end up getting their first B in this class but, since I am not the best at physics, ended up with a C. My question for you guys is how big of a factor do these grades play into our admission in terms of statistics? Before I continue, I would like to say that I was also diagnosed with ADD and that will be mentioned in my mid-year report by my counselor. It caused the B in English as well as my low test scores in reading. Anyway, my competitive school (#1 in the state, almost top 50 in the country among public high schools) is as close to a feeder school to USC as you can get in my southern state. Two years ago, we had 6/24 students applying to USC get accepted although last year it was 11/21 students. The average accepted student's profile (several of which receive rather large scholarships) includes around a 4.19 W GPA, 32 ACT, and 1480 SAT. My GPA is currently 4.11 W (3.80 UW) although there has been a huge trend in previous years, including one B first semester of junior year in AP Chem and straight As second semester. My ACT and SAT scores are exactly average (assuming we are taking superscored SAT as USC does which gives me a 700 in CR+W and 780 in M). In addition to this, I have an 800 on my SAT II Mathematics Level 2 Subject Test which I believe sort of helps with the GPA, although the upward trend and fact that Calculus I and II are not factored into my GPA due to the fact that they are dual enrollment classes taken on the college's campus sort of makes it fine already. For my essays, I wrote my CA one on volunteering, one on my cultural identity (son of two immigrants), one on a physics project where teamwork helped me be successful for Viterbi, a pretty solid Why USC essay that mentioned my passion to explore and the multi-year internship I have had, and finally an essay on a math website for the Viterbi prompt on what your favorite internet page is or whatever. I know how hard it is to help me based on only this but I am freaking out as USC is my dream college in terms of vibe, location, affordability (NMF therefore automatic half tuition scholarship), and much more. CS at Viterbi seems out of question due to the C in physics but mathematics at Dornsife still seems possible if they are nice about the mid-year report. Any predictions, ways to improve my chances, etc? Thanks in advance guys! Also, since I most likely will be deferred to the March admission cycle, there will be time for me to retake the ACT/SAT before admissions looks at my application again. Do you guys think a 33-34 or 1500-1540 on the SAT would help my odds at all? Hopefully this is the case because over winter break I can absolutely spend a lot of time working on my scores for the first time and make massive improvements. I also have adderall for the first time which helps me stay concentrated during tests, particularly pace-oriented reading ones like the ACT. What about if I improve my grades and show USC as well? I was thinking that, if I were to be rejected, I would pay the fee for my admission to be re-looked at and send a letter from my Physics teacher, counselor, or myself that explains how much my grades have improved along with proof.
