Filled out USC BA application. Realized I could do the BFA with video auditions. Questions?

I just found out that BFA offers video auditions to students who cannot attend. I called SDA and they said to contact admissions to change my first choice major to BFA. I called them and they told me I had to email, so I did. Have not gotten a response--I'm sure they're very busy, but the deadline for the BFA application is in 14 hours. SO my question is (while I await a response) should I go ahead and fill out the BFA application even though I have already submitted my BA slideroom app. Can I use the same personal statement since it is the same question, or should I write a completely new one?

Does trustee scholarship follows the major/school?

I read from the post, that the trustee scholarship is given from each school and each school gives different count depending on school size. Let's say if a student gets the scholarship from USC school of Dornsife, then second year he decides to transfer to USC Marshall school of business, will this student still have his scholarship? Thanks.

Does a bad meeting with an admissions counselor hurt my chance of acceptance?

I know the bulk of USC decisions won't be out for a few more months, but I keep having these worries. I met with an admissions counselor in September (not an interview) and I was so nervous that I basically came across as an idiot with no knowledge of USC, and I could tell that she didn't really take me seriously because of it. I sent a thank you note afterwards, but I'm worried that the entire meeting was just a bad decision. She's the one who'll be reviewing my application, do you think I hurt my chances??

Do the merit scholarships stack with NMF award? If not, is it worth the visit?

I was recently named a Presidential scholarship finalist at USC (half-tuition), and invited to interview next month. However, I am also a National Merit Semifinalist, and will be named a Finalist soon. If I am awarded Finalist, I will receive the NMF Presidential scholarship anyways (also, half tuition). It is my understanding that the scholarships don't stack. So, if I don't go to USC to interview, I'll still receive the same amount of merit money as I would if I go to interview, am awarded the scholarship, and am named a NMF. Is all of this correct? LA is a 6 hour $350+ flight from where I live. It seems kind of pointless to visit for 2 days and interview if I'll get the same amount of money even if I don't go. What do you think about my thought process on this??! There's no way I won't get the 1/2 tuition, and no way I could be awarded any more than that!

Does legacy matter anymore?

Hi guys! I know USC used to have a little reputation for favoring legacies and I was wondering what you think it's like now? I feel like now it really doesn't make a difference but a few of my friends seem to think it still plays a large factor.

Fall 2016 USC Trustee/Presidential Scholarship Stats

I've been selected to interview for the Trustee Scholarship for USC, and I was wondering if this could possibly be a measure of my chances for other colleges (such as MIT, Stanford, and the Ivies). For example, do most scholarship candidates get into top-tier schools such as the ones listed? If anyone who received the scholarship nomination in the previous years could provide some feedback, that would be really appreciated. Thanks!

USC Double Majoring in Music and something else???

So I'm in the process of adding colleges to the "colleges I'm thinking about" list and USC has been on there for a while. However, my parents have said time and time again that they will not pay for my college if I'm going to waste it on something that doesn't guarantee lots of money -- like music. I don't really have a problem with that, if only I knew what I wanted to be other than a musician. I was thinking of minoring in music but the music minors are USC restrict lots of music classes I would like to be in had I chosen to major in it. I recently discovered "double-majoring" so I was wondering if USC does that for music and an academic field. On their website they say they can, but they only really talk about double-majoring in 2 academic fields, I just want to be sure that this is also an option. Also if I can, music majors such as the Popular Music major as an example, require an audition to be accepted. If I get into USC for an academic major and choose to double major with music, do I still have to audition to get into a major such as that one? Would I have to wait a year for them to accept my audition to do that then? Here's the most important question for me: Does double-majoring mean paying twice the tuition? Thanks!

Hello everybody! My name is TheCandidCondor. It's college decision season again and I thought that this would be a great time to answer any questions you guys may have about admissions, housing, life on campus, extracurriculars, etc at USC. To tell you a little bit about myself: I'm currently a freshman here at USC and this will be my second semester here. Right now, I'm majoring in business administration at the Marshall School of Business. I intend to also double major in accounting and emphasize in management. In the future, I hope to pursue a career in strategic management consulting for non-profit organizations and social enterprises. Aside from my business pursuits, I'm also passionate about politics and international relations. Please feel free to ask me any questions. I'll try to answer them as promptly as possible. Thanks everybody!

Hi guys, I just came across this interesting wiki article counting Olympic medals for American universities: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_American_universities_with_Olympic_medals. USC is No.1 :)

Computer Science VS Computer Science (Game)

Is there a huge difference if one pursues a major in CS and CS(games)? I checked the major pre-requirements for both major and noticed some class differences. CS(games) seems to require less class to get in, while CS requires more classes, such as chemistry, bio, Cal III, and etc. I'm interested in CS(games) because it's more game oriented towards the major, but if I decided not to code games and pursue something else, would I still have the knowledge a regular CS major would have? And if I pursue the regular CS major, will I have the knowledge to code a well developed game like the person with a CS(game) major? Also how are these two majors viewed from a job perspective point of view? Is one major superior than the other or is it roughly the same? Thank you, and I appreciate any answers.

Is my mothers death an excuse for bad freshman grades?

A while before starting my freshman year of high school, my mom died due to lymphoma cancer. That completely and instantly changed me as a person. I developed untreated depression and an eating disorder. My freshman year of high school, I got a 2.7 average GPA. YES. A 2.7. I regret it more than anything. But I was able to overcome my issues in sophomore year when my grades started going up. I had a 3.3 first semester, and 4.0 second semester. And junior year I had a 4.0 first semester, and I'm maintaining a 4.0 right now. As you can see, I'm a good student, but my mother's death influenced my mental health and my academics. Would USC appreciate the upward trend and the fact that I pushed through my hardest struggles? Freshman year really brought down my cumulative GPA. I also plan on getting over a 2200 on my SAT and a 32 or 33 on the ACT. And write a great essay ofcourse. Could I still get in?

Peer Pressure

I just finished my application to USC. When I told my friend that I had applied there, she told me that I would never make it there because of the party scene. It's true - I'm not much of a partier, and I don't really drink. Would that be an issue at USC? Is she right when she told me that you're a no one if you don't party, or will I be able to find a group of kids that don't party either? (Idk if this helps, but I'm fine with parties. I'll go to them, it's just I don't want that to be the only thing I do for "fun"). Thank you! Any help is appreciated.

Dropped classes

I applied for USC for fall of 2016. I recently had to drop 2 classes due to certain life circumstances. Am I screwed? I feel I have made a huge mistake. My honest feeling, I will apply to USC to start junior year but I will lose all enthusiasm. No. I haven't transfered but I know it could be an incredibly lonely experience. Visiting USC's campus made me want to be there but two years is not enough time to get situated in campus and make valuable relationships. Starting USC in my junior year won't be going to USC anymore, it will be living in Los Angeles instead. I want to go to USC because I actually want to be part of USC. If I can't get in, then I'll set my aims at NYU next year which is not a traditional college. If I can't get in, I'll rather just live in New York like I always planned. High School Stats GPA: 3.49 ACT: 18 College Stats: Year: Freshman Semester 1 GPA: 3.8 Units: 16 Semester 2 GPA: To be determined Units: 12 (Previously 16) Call me a whiner. I don't care. Trying to express how I truly feel.

CSULB's credit/no credit policy

For transfer applicants specifically for those wanting to transfer after freshman year, how does USC view the "credit/no credit" policy. The basic rule of the policy, if you passed the class, you get CR on your transcript. How would USC respond? Would that person still have to report the grade somehow?

USC Consistent Top Fundraiser With Harvard and Stanford

For the past 11 years, USC has been among the elite group of fundraisers. From 2001 to 2011, these are the schools that made the top ten list in terms of money raised (number of years in top ten list in that period): Harvard, Stanford, Hopkins, Penn: (11) Columbia (10) USC, Cornell (9) Yale (8) During that time, either Harvard or Stanford raised the most money except 2002, when USC was number one. No other school beat Harvard or Stanford during that time. Yesterday I received a random phone call from a USC student asking for a $250 donation. I was having dinner at a restaurant and although I was interrupted, we ended up on the phone for a half an hour sharing our experiences. She's on financial aid and explained how tough it can be at times. I told her how it was hard for me too and encouraged her to hang in there, reassured her that all of those hardships will pass, and that years from now she will look back fondly and say to herself it was worth the experience. I pledged more than what she asked for. I encourage all USC fans to do the same: give to old SC! Our students need our support and depend on us.

How stingy is USC with financial aid?

I was just accepted into USC with the ability to interview for the Presidential Scholarship. Even with the scholarship, USC is still around $42,000. My EFC is around $20,000, but I get the impression that USC (or any school, for that matter) does not give a lot of money to those who are solidly middle-upper middle class, but cannot afford $60k a year to pay for school. Current students/parents/graduates who have dealt with financial aid at USC or any other private college: how does this process go about?

Cannot fly to LA for my Presidential Scholarship interview - any other options?

I applied to USC and was accepted through the Questbridge College Match program (for very low income students). I was invited to Explore USC to interview for a chance at the Presidential Scholarship. My family is very low income and although I do have a job, I don't think I will be able to fly to LA for the interview. I know they reimburse the flight costs but I can't come up with 300+ dollars for this. I really want to go to USC, will financial aid be enough since I probably can't win the scholarship? Does anyone know if they offer Skype interviews? I'm heartbroken about not being able to go, but minimum wage at my job and whatever money my parents can scrape together will likely not be enough to allow me.

How much financial aid?

Hello, the USC financial aid office is viewing me as independent status this year with EFC = 0 and where I don't have to submit the CSS profile. I was wondering if anyone has an idea of how much financial aid I will be receiving in dollars or if anyone knows an example of an independent student like me and how much financial aid he/she receives?
