Hello!
During these days I have found out about a great program that I am literally dreaming of for my undergraduate degree. It is called World Bachelor in Business and it consists in studying in three different schools in three continents: the first year is at Marshall's University in California, the second one is at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the third one is at Bocconi University in Milan and finally the last year is at one of these three universities of your choice.
WBB is what I have always dreamed of for my education and I am very motivated and passionate about it. However, WBB is a very competitive programme that is opened to only 45 students.
I am writing this post right now to ask for your help: is there anyone who knows about the admission for WBB - what are they looking for in a student?
I am a very open minded person, who loves living new cultures. I am Italian and right now I am an exchange student in Seattle, Washington. My academic achievements are good, with a GPA of 4.0 here in the USA and an average of 9.1 / 10 in Italy. My English is fair and is getting better thanks to the exchange experience, and I am planning on taking the TOEFL soon. I am in DECA and FBLA and I have recently been a winner at the DECA area competition. In addition, I work in the student store and I am very involved with scholastic activities. I am taking the SAT soon and expect to get a score between 1850 and 1950. Finally, when I go back to Italy I am planning on volounteering in a company to learn about how it works in the real world.
Do you think I have a chance? What do you suggest I do i order to be selected as a WBB student?
Thank you!

ESSAY: About the struggles of being an Arab who wanted to pursue the path of creativity at USC. Arab culture didn’t accept you unless you wanted to be a doctor/ business man/ engineer. (DID NOT WRITE MY ESSAY YET, JUST PLANNING IT)
I know my overall UW GPA average will be weak due to my terrible freshman year grades (everyone told me freshmen year wouldn't matter) but I think I have somewhat of a shot. It's my absolute dream school.

Just accepted to USC! Many questions about Financial Aid
I applied to USC through QuestBridge Regular Decision and recently received my acceptance in the mail. I was blown away by it all, as my stats are not stellar for USC. I was even more blown away by the fact that I was selected to interview for the Trustee Merit Scholarship. I live in Hawaii and I am, frankly, very poor. One of my parents is unable to work and the other does not make much money. Using USC's Net Price Calculator, I found that my estimated cost of attendance after need-based financial aid is $2,500 (Which I can easily cover with outside scholarships). My question is: is this realistic? Does USC actually cover the entire cost of attendance for some admitted students with financial situations as extreme as mine? Is the cost of the flight to Los Angeles for the Trustee Scholarship worth it or should I expect this need-based aid to cover the cost anyway? I apologize as I probably come off as naive and overwhelmed by all this. Any guidance would be extremely appreciated.

Viterbi AP credits policy
My DD just got accepted to Computer Science and Engineering. She will complete 15 AP classes by the time she graduates. She took 9 AP exams already. I know that Viterbi is not very generous with AP credits. Where can I find information on AP credits? I am trying to decide if she needs to take AP exams this year.

Additional Comments:
My mother died before I could even start high school, which led to depression and an eating disorder that were both untreated. Freshman year I had terrible grades and I had to deal with adjusting to a new school with a completely different education system. (From IB to American system) By the time I had started sophomore year, I had worked through my issues and was able to come out first semester with a 3.3 GPA and now, in my second semester, maintaining a 4.0 :)
Also applying to UCSB, NYU, Pepperdine, McGill, University of Toronto & University of British Columbia (list for now)

CSS Profile
Hi does anyone know the reason why some USC students do not have to complete and submit the CSS Profile?

Alternate Major
I'm applying to Marshall as a transfer and have the option of putting an alternate major. When looking at apps does it hurt to put an alternate? Do they maybe think that I'm okay with not getting in my first major choice?

Letters of Rec from "Other" recommenders?
I've been wanting to send an extra letter of recommendation from one of my extracurricular supervisors to USC, but unfortunately the Common App wouldn't allow me to. I really need this extra letter of recommendation since I had to transfer schools during my sophomore year and my teacher recs probably aren't as personal as I'd like them to be.
I contacted the USC office of admissions explaining my situation and asking if it was OK to send in other letters of rec, but I haven't received a response after waiting 3 days. All of the other colleges that I applied to responded to me within a day or two. Is this normal? If not, could I just send in the additional letter to the Office of Admissions?
Thanks for your help.

Iovine and Young Academy!!!
Just wanted to make a thread for those who applied to IYA for Fall 2016 and to see if anyone has heard back yet! Btw does anyone know how competitive it is currently and around how many spots are available?

Opinions on housing options?
I received a (beautiful) acceptance letter and full-tuition scholarship nomination on Monday, and I am beyond excited to join the Trojan family! I have been looking through the dorms/suites available, and I am completely overwhelmed by all of the options. If anyone has any insight, please help! At first, I was drawn to the Fluor suites, because they have A/C, individual bathrooms, and more space then the traditional dorms. I like to cook a lot, so the range top/cooking area would be awesome, and I like that it's so close to the gym. However, I don't want to be missing out on the social aspects of Brinkrant, New, or North. Also, I will be making most classes at Dornsife, so does this factor in to the equation, or are they all pretty close? The communal bathrooms/lack of A/C in the dorms scare me, but I want to be able to party, make friends, and be a part of the social scene. Will this be hard in the Fluor Tower? Are there different types of people who room in different places?
Thank you so much for any help! I really appreciate it!

Best dorm for CS major
As NMF and Presidential scholarship hopefull I can live at Birnkrant, but I would prefer to have A/C. Any recommendations for CS major looking to make friends and have an active social life that doesn't involve Greek ? If I ignore A/C problem, is Birnkrant the best option?

Can I switch my choice of major after applying?
I applied to USC with my first choice being the Iovine and Young academy, which I was rejected from but am still being out for consideration for my second choice (CS at Vitebri). I know acceptance to that school is very competitive so I wanted to try changing it to a major which is less impacted and would give me a better chance of getting into USC since someone said transferring between schools at USC is much easier once you're in the school. Does anyone know some of the less impacted majors at USC and if we're able to request a change in our choice?

USC Trustee Scholarship Chances?
I'm a high school senior from Massachusetts and I'm wondering what my chances are for USC's Trustee Scholarship. USC is my top choice but a full ride scholarship is the really only way I can attend (I don't qualify for really any financial aid, but I don't have much money to go to college, essentially). The website is unclear about how many awards are given or how hard it is to receive them, so I was wondering if anybody knew any more. What are my chances at getting in/getting the scholarship?
(I want to double-major in flute performance and biochemistry; I've already passed the pre-screening for the Thornton School of Music and been invited to audition).
Grades: Straight A's (no A minuses)
one AP class freshman year (AP Human Geography)
one AP class sophomore year (AP European History)
4 AP classes junior year (AP Calculus BC, AP Microeconomics, AP Spanish Language, AP English Language)
4 AP classes senior year (AP Physics C, AP Music Theory, AP English Literature, AP Statistics)
*Mostly all other honors classes*
*I'm a transfer student, moved from CO to MA before my junior year*
Testing:
SAT: 2250 on first try, 2390 on second try, so that's a 2400 super score (I think that's all they see?)
800 on Math II subject test, 800 on Literature subject test, 700 on Spanish (w/o listening) subject test
*I submitted my SATs to USC*
*I've always gotten 5's on AP exams; I think they see this in the Common App*
Extracurriculars and Contest Stuff:
Music
Finalist (top 8) in National Flute Association High School Soloist Competition (I think this is a pretty big deal in the flute/music world and helped me pass their pre-screening)
Member of New England Conservatory Preparatory School's top youth orchestra for 2 years
Member of a similar-level orchestra in Colorado for 3 years (Denver Young Artists Orchestra)
Colorado All-State Orchestra sophomore year, MA All-State Band junior year
Principal flute in district orchestra sophomore and junior year
Part of two chamber groups at NEC Prep for 2 years, one is their top performing wind quintet
Received top scores possible at district festival type things past 2 years
Clubs and others:
Vice president of NHS
Co-founder and co-president of Spanish National Honor Society chapter at my school
President of my church youth group intermittently for past couple years
Member of Health Occupation Students of America, received 2nd place at states for my event
Member of DECA, received 3rd place at states and competitive honors at internationals in my event
Member of Best Buddies
Member of Tri-M (music honor society)
In CO I volunteered at a hospital for about a year right before I moved
Did a metabolomics research project at a lab this summer and I think I threw that on a resume they received.
Sports:
Unified Track (a joint team for typical students and students with special needs)
So this is pretty much it, I think I had pretty good essays and I applied in time for their scholarship deadline. I have an audition at Thornton School of Music this January and I've heard of music majors receiving the Trustee Scholarship before. Any thoughts on the odds of my receiving it? I'm also posting this under the financial aid & scholarships forum, btw. Thanks to everyone in advance.

Transferring online courses to USC help ..
so i have a question, i know that USC does not grant credit to Lab science that was taken online, so don't bother to take it, but the thing is i'm transferring to the Vetrbi engineering school in USC, and i have taken the General chemistry class online, the thing is the lecture was online, but Exams, test, and Labs were all face to face, so do you think USC will still not accept them or they will, from your experiences, and do you think that USC might know i took it online or they might not, thank you :)

USC IS MY DREAM SCHOOL
I applied to USC on December 1st but it was rushed since I decided to start on it 2 hours before the deadline (found out about IYA, had to apply, was going to apply at the January date). So basically my application isn't the best representation of myself. Is there anything at all that I could do to try and better my chances of getting in? I am absolutely in love with the school and can't picture myself anywhere else. Would emailing admissions help? someone please help me, I am so desperate to get in.

USC Viterbi
I originally applied to USC with IYA as my first choice, but I am no longer being considered for that major. What are my chances of getting into Viterbi (my second choice)? My SAT and ACT scores are low (1700 and 26), but I have a high GPA and a lot of EC. I mentioned in my personal statment that my reason for wanting to major in CS is to use my creativity (because I'm artistic) to create new things in this field. I really want to go to USC so since Viterbi is so competitive, should I try emailing them to switch my second choice to Geodesign at Dornslife or Public Relations at Annenberg? HELP

Problems with USC
Hey all,
I'm a scholarship student at USC this year and considering transferring out. I've been talking to a few people about the problems I've been having, but wanted to post my thoughts for those you in college decision season. There are pros and cons to every school and I'd encourage everyone to consider all of these. People tend to look at the good things about a school but I feel issues tend to be what are overlooked in the process. Anyways take these with a grain of salt and feel free to reach out for additional questions / details (I'm just giving the overview).
1. Location-wise, LA can be a pain without a car. There isn't much public transport, and since there isn't much after the immediate area around campus, it feels kind of like an island. People don't leave much. Especially if you're a major like Engineering, or Pre-Med. I definitely wanted a more experience with outside the campus (colleges with a college town are better for that). In general, you shouldn't expect a very immersive experience with LA, unless you take easy classes and don't do much else on campus.
2. Culture-wise, the school is definitely pretty exclusive. The greek system dominates a lot of social life on campus, and they are very snobby and exclusive. It's also predominantly white business majors. Not much diversity at all. Even though USC is statistically diverse, friend groups tend to form largely around race, so you don't really get a diverse multicultural experience. People tend to stick to their own which is disappointing. If you are looking for an intimate, open and multicultural experience, USC probably isn't the best place.
3. Quality of life issues - this is an issue at other schools too, but I find disappointing only since USC is a well-endowed private institution. Students find ways to make it work by 2nd semester freshman year so it isn't a huge deal, but just something to think about. Food is notoriously terrible, the gym is small, old, broken down, and usually so packed its hard to get a workout done with out it take twice as long as usual. Freshman dorms are very old as well, don't have AC etc. Again not a problem most of the year, just takes some time to get used. But something to think about.
4. Weather really doesn't matter. USC has nice weather most of the year, but don't let this affect your decision at all. When it comes down to it academics (your program) and the culture (student body) matter MUCH more.
5. CS program: First, the intro curriculum is in C++, which isn't a great intro language for new programmers. Something to think about. There aren't many elective offerings for undergrads. For example, the machine learning course is a grad course and is super hard to get into since there are 20k grads at this school. Electives in general tend to be security, networks, or games focused (and research opps) so if thats not your area of interest, probably not the best program. The graduates problem is also an issue for events like career fairs, since they are usually flooded and not every useful since they are so packed. Overall, there just isn't much investment into CS. It isn't the university's focus. The CS building is one of the oldest on campus, classes have many inconsistencies, and assignments and projects aren't great. I did a lot of CS before college, so came in with some perspective on this.
6. General issues with campus being progressive - minimal recycling, smoking is allowed on campus, etc. (UCLA is way more progressive in this sense).
7. There are more things but these are the big areas - it should mostly come down to what program you're applying for, so look into that the most.
That said, USC is still a great school, and on an upwards trend. Just do your research before coming anywhere.
Hit me up if you want more info! Cheers.
